Following Up Progresses at AKC School
A lot has happened since the school opened again. Here are some updates.
Roof Renovation Campaign
As already mentioned in the earlier post of Thanksgiving Day, the Fundraising Campaign raised USD 1,250 online, donated from differently folks in many parts of the world. While the rest of the need to fill this campaign are filled by the a generous donation from the Rotary Club Rosenheim, raised by AKC main donor, we call them parenting donor, Helpucation e.V. From all these impressively support, the Roof Renovation can start in this December 2020. Our AKC team are working on the admission and other administrative work now. Even so, the campaign doesn’t end yet, you can still donate to the campaign, any single dollars counts.
The Return of Students and School Work Flow
After the very long school closure due to the Covid-19 outbreak in Cambodia, AKC school now has reached to over 300 students again. This underlines the importance of the school for the local community.
But our new team is of course not relaxing either – we are working feverishly on digitizing the school and introducing a new school administration system that makes the management of students and teachers and their data much easier. From school enrollments to attendance reports and exam results, everything can be recorded and managed. Hopefully the data will be ready in the first quarter of the term.
After the school opened, placement tests were carried out again and a new teaching standard implemented for preschoolers – named AKC Preschool.
The rush for the IT classes is also enormous – the demand can almost no longer be met with the current equipment and Chhay awards certificates in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint after a successful course.
Challenges of the Farm and Volunteers
There are also a few challenges, especially in the farm project. Unfortunately only a small part of the chickens could be sold due to the many diseases. However, the pigs could be sold, even if not at the expected prices. Now the focus is still on pigs breeding. Two mother pigs were bought and the piglets will then be sold at a profit in a few months. News update will be follow. Let’s bear the challenge and hope with us.
Our Volunteering Teachers on site are also extremely busy developing themselves, teaching PreSchool classes. What even busier for them is their coming final exams of the High School that has been put on pending due to COVID-19. From the recently announcement, the exams date postponed again to mid January 2021.
To be ready for their exams, our volunteers need to spend more time for their own self-study. Therefore they will not be able to invest a lot of time in the Angkor Kids Center in the next few weeks. Furthermore, we believe that after their graduation, this generation of the volunteers will leave the school for their further education and work. To be always ready, Hak and Sam are already busy training new volunteer teachers and developing exciting, child-friendly teaching methodologies.
All in all, a lot has happened again and our new team is full of motivation and zest for action, which we are very happy about.
